Happy Mother’s Day to all of you beautiful ladies. Today was very simple but so special filled with laughter, happiness and all these cute little moments in between. I originally wanted to illustrate a pregnant figure (because i just love how beautiful our bodies become during pregnancy) but then it hit me. We are all mothers one way or the other, pregnant or not. So many different stories full of love. Yes, happy mother’s day to you cat mamas too!

I did this project a few weeks ago and had a little too much fun with the concept and props. I loved playing with the shadows and the reflection from the shell. Mother of pearl can’t look any better when the sunset rays hit it. This photoshoot is to symbolise females blooming, being confident and loving yourself. There are a lot more symbolisms but i’ll leave it to you to discover.

It’s a rare occasion that i shoot still life, but this one was really fun. Art direction and photo shooting is something i’ll definitely probably do more.

If you’re into astronomical maps, planets and manuscripts, there’s no way you won’t be obsessed with the Flemish astronomical graphics. There’s something so alluring in a universe map as it was seen and drawn so many years ago. It even looks more magical and mystical and as a designer i truly adore the details, colors and element positioning. There’s such a natural flow in them, artistic but educational at the same time.

So kinda wanted to give it a shot and recreate something with my own style with some Flemish astronomy dose to it. This is nowhere close to a real astronomy map, but it’s a gif that took me so much math to create (a lot more than i thought i knew). I created it in about an hour, and it’s a mixed media piece with watercolour on paper and the edited in Photoshop where i also did the animation on.

Just last year, i worked with acrylics for the first time and this is what i got. I fell so much in love with the flow the paint had and the moment that i was drawing and experimenting was pure bliss. It was very early in the morning while Jason was sleeping and it was just me and the music. I draw this very small page, that turned out to be quite interesting. There were different parts of it that looked like a landscape and reminded me so much of Mars, or even better a red planet that no-one has ever seen.

There’s something about this color that makes me swoon. It reminds me of magical places, adventure and passion.

While this painting was for a project, it was never used and it’s still however my very favourite thing i’ve drawn. I have over 100 different shots and i use them regularly on my phone and mac as wallpapers. As it sits there i realised that it deserves a project on its own to showcase and here are my Red Planets.

This is a mixed media project and as of late, my absolutely favourite art medium combination.

A few nights ago we watched The True Cost on Netflix and our hearts broke. Not that we were oblivious of the situation in the fashion industry and not that sustainable fashion hasn’t been in trend for the past couple of years. Somehow my mind wasn’t ready for a change and only right after i became a mom the whole everything really struck me into wanting to do better.

I’ve read a lot about sustainability in the past and i continue to educate myself more these days. Changing what you’ve learnt your whole life isn’t easy and the greedy little monster in me wants all the pretty she sees. But as a start all the fast fashion brands and i broke up at the beginning of the year. I know i deserve better and that buying clothes that i know i won’t value in a few days won’t make me happy or prettier.

To begin this journey, i cleared my closet and gifted all the good stuff to my little sister that i know she appreciates. I kept only a few pieces, and even though many are from Zara, i’ll value them as they are and take care of the clothes i have. I only bought a couple pieces from ethical brands like Zingara with organic cotton and Faithful the brand and that is it for me. Liberating, easy and honestly, makes me feel like a million bucks.

I haven’t shared  a lot about the new shop we’re working on, but we aim to be ethical, organic and  all the way zero waste and eco friendly. Creating with a consciousness is the best way to create.
