Today, was a colourful day! We spent our morning by the sea, shooting a new style post and having finished work early, i’ve been working on a colour palette for a secret project. The pictures are not the best, i have to admit it really bothers me. But the layout and shapes, how the colour blend together, it was so amusing i could not take a picture or two. Or three, four.
Sometimes, my job makes me feel like a child again. Getting my hands dirty and smudging pretty much everything around me. But, oh how much joy it brings to my heart! The first and last felt perfect for a wallpaper, and since i haven’t designed one in a long time, you can find them ready to download below.

It has to be the third time that i’m updating the TFL with a weekly schedule! I kinda do have a week spot for spicing up my routine every now and then to be honest with you. A little before the new year, i changed an 180º direction to how i work throughout the week and it definitely suits the whole feeling fresh and relaxed mood of 2016. I’m feeling less tight and “going by the book”. You can see an older post right here and although the process has stayed at some points the same, a few things that make a whole lot difference have changed.

WEEKDAYS
07:30 – 08:00
This one turns out to be definitely the most difficult part of the day. I used to wake up a lot earlier, some times even at 6am, but the more time passes the more grumpy i am waking up early. Although i’m missing valuable time for things like taking a walk, or getting ready with a slow pace, i get to snooze and feel much happier for doing so. One thing i also dropped, is showering in the morning. That’s an evening thing now, as i love going to be feeling fresh and clean.
So basically, if you’re one to get tired a lot during the day, you might want to give yourself the rest and sleep your body needs. This is the exact reason i’m changing my routine every few months. The needs are changing and so should your schedule. In a few words, i’m gaining more time to sleep, wake up happy, have a quick breakfast, wash my face and go to my office.

09:00 – 10:00 am
My goal, is to be sitting in my desk around 9 and getting things started. My favourite thing to do early in the morning, is having a cup of tea, now that mornings are cold, and replying emails. Sometimes it takes a lot more than an hour, but i do my best to write short and sweet emails, without spending more than two minutes for each. The more focused you are, the quicker you’re getting them all done.

I start with my main inbox, moving forward to new inquires which is in a different folder, then general inquires and interviews. Finally, i’ve got the Courses inbox, which is the last ones i reply before starting to work on projects.

10:00 am – 01:30 pm
And here’s where the sweetest change has taken its place. I used to work with a timer, and scheduling projects to work on everyday with a specific amount of time. For example, on Monday, i would have scheduled 7 projects to work on, with 30 minutes each. That lead me to deal with stress to finish them before launch, that drove me completely crazy.

With my new system, i work with projects alone, without setting a specific time and using a timer. Getting rid of the timer, occurs to sometimes loosing track of time and perhaps has me less focused. But i do my best to keep my mind on the project and think of nothing else. Audiobooks help a lot at this point. So now, Monday looks more like; 3 projects that i simply need to wrap up before noon. Depending on the project, i will place it on the according day.

Knowing what i need to work on each project, i’m able to calculate the amount of time it should take me. A small revision, could be paired with a larger one and working on a brand plan or starting a brand identity presentation. This system basically eases my mind: less projects on a day, less stress on the amount of time to spend on them. Simple and easy.

01:30pm – 05:00pm
We still do a break at 01:30pm for lunch for around 30 minutes. After the break, i will work until 5pm for ultimately my personal projects and blog posts. That doesn’t turn out always successful, as sometimes i need to finish the projects from before lunch. Which is why, scheduling your week is so important. It is much better to add more days to your turnarounds, than burn yourself. The more tired you are the less efficient your work will be.

After 5pm these days, i’ll spend some time with the hubby, walk our cat and dog and go to the gym. Yes, that was one of my resolutions, so Theo and i are spending quite some time in the gym together. I’ll be resuming my yoga next week and we both stared practising with our bokens today. Such a badass couple don’t you think? And that, pretty much wraps up my weekdays. A lot of cups of tea, warm snuggly pjs and my audiobooks.

Have been playing around with some cutouts this morning, more geometry stuff. This week has started in a most creative note. Have been playing around with some cutouts this morning, more geometry stuff. This week has started in a most creative note. Spent most of my day yesterday rebranding and updating the 2016 Kit for my brand, creating new logos and brand direction. And of course, i’ve started creating the collection for the shop. This is the first collection of anything i’ve ever created and it’s slightly scary how cohesive everything must be. Seeing the bigger picture is what makes a designer, and this is definitely the moment to shine!
I’ve been somehow more talkative over at twitter the past weeks and had quite some help with a few wonderful gals about the new logo and inspiration for the collection. Minimal Morocco is on my mind, and at this point i strongly feel i should pack my bags and head to Marrakech.
The new website design is heading to a great direction too! One thing that has been hunting me ever since i moved to wordpress, was that the old links from blogger where no longer working. Thanks to my crazy talented hubby, that is now fixed. I’ve been thinking of a making a post about all the things you should know before making the blogger – wordpress transition. It would save me SO much stress and trouble from the very beginning.

Well that was a long long time! Almost 5 months since my last style shoot and for a good reason! Ever since we moved to the new house, i’ve lost my beloved white wall and practically lost the inspiration to shoot one. Well that was a long long time! Almost 5 months since my last style shoot and for a good reason! Ever since we moved to the new house, i’ve lost my beloved white wall and practically lost the inspiration to shoot one. Now, i need to get more creative with my surroundings or simply drive to it. I think the first one might be the answer.
So i have a few more shoots planned now that i broke my silence here, and slightly altering the style. I think i like where this is heading. Gittit from Knobbly Studio definitely inspired me quite enough to go for this concrete wall on a sunset. Nothing i would ever have tried before, but the jewellery style, needed something more artistic in my opinion, than what i usually do.

Ever since i received the little pretty package from Knobbly, i haven’t taken the earrings off my ears. I’ve taking a small turn from gold jewellery to silver lately. Would never have thought that i say that, but i truly find silver way more attractive these days. Gold and black is still my signature when it comes to graphics though!
A small teaser for you; i’ll be designing a few sets of jewellery for the upcoming shop as well. Knobbly has been such an inspiration with the minimal aesthetics, making me realise that designing minimal is not an easy thing. Never would have seen that coming! It’s definitely a really fun process nevertheless.

This year, i thought i’d start early with the Valentine’s downloadables. You see, Theo and i celebrate today being 6 six years together. A day like today, six years ago, i kissed this guy that i had fell madly in love in the first week dating. They do say that when you meet the one, you know it. And so i did.
We are not the couple that will go out for a dinner, or buy gifts to each other. It doesn’t make a difference actually because we do all these things throughout the whole year. We leave notes to each other, hide them into our jackets or around the house. Sounds kinda cute, i even “aw” inside my head right now. And that’s what inspired me for todays post.
Something simple, a letter. Write your thoughts, why you love your significant other. A date, so you can keep it and remember.

And that, would be the second motto for the new year. Living a little. A few things that i missed last year, was going places, doing stuff, having fun. I guess i’m really committed this year to my resolutions as i practically dropped everything on a Tuesday morning to head to the mountain for the first heavy snow. And it was magical!
Bella was the happiest dog on planet as always; in her natural habitat, licking ice and burring her nose in the snow.

Although a lot of people made it to the mountain, we were the only ones to really make it to the top were the snow was practically virgin. There was myst, frost, powder like snow, cold and a lot of bright, happy red faces.
We walked through woods, on paths never taken and walked as much as our fit could take it.

Bella sleeps all day ever since we came home. She won’t get up, almost snores. Tonight, i’ll sleep with a happy heart and dream about that crunchy sound snow made while we were walking through the frozen forest.

TFL54-Cocorrina1

It’s been quite a few months since i last wrote a TFL post! With the Courses having ended just yesterday, i’m back to my normal routine, working on the shop and the new websites. The whole experience was wonderful, and the response, simply mind-blowing. We are in the talks of having more regular courses, instead of a six month period and perhaps repeating the one that just took place.
There was this topic that i talked about in the Courses; the importance of editing. I’ve been wanting to write a TFL about it for months now, so today felt like the perfect day. You can call this editing, toning down, revision-ing, any way you like it. The beautiful and important art of editing, is how i call it.
To be quite honest with you, i haven’t realised until recently, just how important it is to get rid of your clutter. Let me take this from the very beginning. Designers usually get all these crazy ideas and concepts, don’t know where to begin from, end up using too many or all of the concepts in one. I was always one to work on numerous revisions on anything i worked on, but never really saw it as an opportunity to declutter. Keep just the important stuff, leave the rest out. And that, was until i started working on my shop.
Not sure if that’s just only me, but i get excited and i want to work on this, and that, and then add a little of that, and perhaps some of that. Working on the shop for such a long time now, has given me time to actually realise, that in the end, the best of your work is when you remove, not add. And this, has been my newest motto. On anything i think is finalised, i go back, and simply remove what i won’t miss if it’s not there. Making me design with purpose, that turns into beauty.
This whole new year feels so much more light and meaningful, i think this is the first time i feel a year taking such a drastic change. Perhaps this vibe shows in the way i design now, but boy it really feels liberating!
